French FM holds phone talk with Amir-Abdollahian over JCPOA

TEHRAN, Sep. 01 (MNA) – French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Wed. held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian over Iran’s nuclear deal, JCPOA.

In this phone talk, Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Foreign Minister congratulated Hossein Amir-Abdollahian for his appointment as new foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Al-Mayadeen reported.

According to the report, French foreign minister called on his Iranian counterpart to return to nuclear talk for the revival of JCPOA in the shortest time possible.

The request came as Iranian Foreign Minister in a telephone conversation with his Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlić Radman on Tue. regarding Vienna talks said that negotiations should be aimed at securing interests of Iranian people.

In this phone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian said that US government must also know that it can speak with noble Iranian nation only with the language of respect.

Amir-Abdollahian said during the conversation that the US is responsible for the current situation because of its unlawful withdrawal from the JCPOA and the imposition of harsh sanctions against the great people of Iran, IRNA reported.

He said the European parties of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) too are to blame for their inaction.

Iran will participate only in talks that have tangible results in ensuring the rights and interests of the Iranian people, the Foreign Minister added.

He regretted that the current US administration too, despite its previous claims, plans to continue the illegal sanctions as a tool to pressure the Iranian government, but it has to realize that Iran will not succumb to such pressures.

The minister advised the European JCPOA signatories to take wise positions and try to play a constructive role.

The two foreign ministers also voiced support for the goals of the Baghdad Conference in encouraging regional engagement.

They further discussed the developments in Afghanistan and stressed the need for cooperation to encourage all parties to form an inclusive government, in order to ensure stability and security there and in the region.

The two sides agreed to continue talks between them on the mentioned issues.

Le Drian stressed the importance and necessity of resuming the Vienna talks and called for members' full resumption of their commitments.  He expressed hope that more Tehran-Paris talks lead to the resumption and conclusion of the nuclear talks.

The French Foreign Minister also hoped for fostering stability and security of the region in line with the Baghdad conference.
